Kenneth Freedland, PhD presents, “Paradoxical Effects of Chronic Disease Self-Care”

Chronic disease self-care is supposed to improve outcomes and decrease health care utilization, yet results from a recent study of patients with heart failure suggest that self-care may be associated with worse outcomes. This presentation will consider possible explanations for this paradoxical finding and explore some implications for further research.

Mary Katherine Ray, PhD presents, Impact of Glucose Variability on Dynamic Cognitive Function in Youth with Type 1 Diabetes

Cognition is known to be impaired in youth with type 1 diabetes when measured in the lab, particularly in those with poor glycemic control; but little is known about cognition in daily life. This presentation will focus on our project aimed at determining whether real-time, real-life glucose fluctuations predict dynamic cognitive function variability in this population.
